Unfortunately, many individuals or families still struggle to plan for care or fully understand the factors they need to consider. These may include exploring available care options, understanding payment methods, or seeking guidance from other health and social care professionals. Whether you are facing an urgent situation or simply want to explore future care options, we are here to assist you.

National Information on cost of care

As of January 2025, there are approximately 13,733 domiciliary care services registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England. Each service has its own pricing structure. The cost of home care is influenced by several factors, including the specific services required (such as companionship, specialised or high needs care, or housekeeping), the frequency of care needed each week, and your geographical location.

With a multitude of home care agencies available, it can be challenging to determine the appropriate price range for services. At HealthNow Limited, we take pride in offering premium care packages that prioritise quality while maintaining transparency about costs. Our clients can be rest assured that there are no hidden fees or unexpected charges.

In terms of pricing, the average cost of domiciliary care is around £28.53 per hour for 2024 and 2025, a figure set by local authorities as a minimum rate. However, this can vary based on the type of service and region; for example, personal care services typically range from £20 to £35 per hour, while specialised medical and mental health care may cost between £30 and £60 per hour. In London and the South East, prices tend to be higher due to increased living costs compared to areas in the North East and rural regions.

As demand for home care services continues to grow—driven by an aging population and pressures on healthcare systems—understanding these costs is essential for families seeking support.

How to pay for Home care:

There are various ways to pay for home care, and the method you choose will depend on the services you require and the payment options offered by your provider.

For instance, if you need occasional respite care, this is often billed at an hourly rate. Alternatively, if you have a regular contract with an agency for several hours of personal care each week, it may be billed as a weekly or monthly rate.

At Health Now limited, we recognise that every individual’s care needs are unique. That’s why our packages are tailored to suit your specific circumstances, location, health conditions, and other requirements.

Here is a national sample below:

  • A client requiring 7 hours of home visits for personal care paid approximately £231 per week.
  • A client living with mid cognitive health needs like dementia receiving 14 hours of specialist care weekly at a cost of £490 per week.
  • A client with complex care needing 14 hours of weekly home visits for health monitoring and paid almost £500 – 1895 per week.

In 2024 and 2025, the average cost of domiciliary (hourly) care in the UK is approximately £28 per hour, though this can vary based on location and service type. For example:

  • In England, the minimum recommended price for home care is £28.53 per hour, while in Wales it is slightly higher at £30.58 per hour
  • Live-in care costs start at around £1,095 per week for basic companionship support and increase to over £1,695 per week for advanced care needs

You may have to pay for your own home care, but you could also be eligible for support or full funding from your local council. We have a whole guide dedicated to figuring out how to pay for your home care services, which you can read here.
